BREAKING NEWS:
Atlanta Region EDA University Center Competition
The Atlanta Regional Office of EDA has informed all but four of the existing Centers that they will not be refunded. Information conveyed to most of the university center directors by officials from the Atlanta Office is that they had decided to fund universities with the ability to deliver statewide programs. As a result of this decision, EDA Officials advised that all counties in the eight states of the Atlanta Region would be covered. There is a concern among the center directors who did not get funded that neither the published information nor the pre-competition conference call provided information that the focus would be on the ability to deliver a statewide program. A greater emphasis was placed on high cash match according to center directors input.
The eight Universities that will be included in the program are Clemson; NCSU; Georgia Tech; UT; UK; MSU; Auburn; and, University of Florida. Previously, the Atlanta Region had 14 centers.
At the time of the press release, information regarding the Seattle Region was not available.
Alert: Be on the lookout for a draft letter to send to US Representatives to increase funding for EDA and University Center Programs. Page last updated: 04/13/06
